Materials
The materials I use in my work are quite varied. I am interested in combining objects of differing colors, textures, and characters. I am especially drawn to aged metals at various stages of oxidation, and to wild woods, grasses, and objects for their richness of color, texture, and narrative. I am especially drawn to aged metals at various stages of oxidation, and to wild woods, grasses, and objects for their richness of color, texture, and narrative. An example of some of the materials I use are:
- Ceramic and Cast Stone: Used for my figures (which I model, mold, cast, and finish myself).
- Oxidized Copper sheet metal and wire: I also use the dust produced from the oxidation process to produce the patina solution for some of the Cast Stone figures.
- Rusted reclaimed metals: Old baling wire, metal siding, bed and cot springs, square-headed nails, tools, barbed wire; pretty much anything that catches my eye.
- Handmade papers: Mostly Unryu (from Kozo/Paper Maple pulp), and Joss paper ("Spirit Money": rice paper with a metal-leaf stamp).
- I make direct prints of feathers on mainly Unryu and Joss paper using oil-based ink.
- Natural and human-made found objects.
- Various gemstone and glass beads
